Deanery Flats was established by Barnardo’s and consisted of six self-contained units for mothers with babies and a day nursery for up to 25 children located in Windsor Avenue, Belfast. The complex was designed to offer the idea of security and independence to unsupported women and girls, and their babies. The day nursery was thought to provide secure childcare therefore enabling some of the women and girls to take up employment. The flats opened in 1973 and closed in 1991
